Pucón
Pucon is well known as a tourist destination due to its all year round activities that go from water skiing, sailing, snow skiing, hiking, trekking, kayaking, etc. Pucon has also Casino, Supermarkets, over 100 restaurants, cinema, Rent a car and Tourist agencies.
Located in the Cautin province, IX region of the Chilean Araucania and at the beginning of the Chilean Patagonia, in a place called the Chilean Lake District, close to Villarrica, Panguipulli, Caburgua, and Curarrehue.
It’s located at the feet of the southern Andean Mountains of Chile, surrounded by beautiful rivers, and is well known worldwide, as one of the best places for kayaking in the world, with many class 5 rivers.
How to get there
You can get there by car or bus, just follow the Pan American Highway up to Temuco, go south same way to Freire and then get of the highway first west and then east and follow to the east up to 75 km route 55. From Argentina via the Mamuil Malal border crossing and from the south via Loncoche-Villarica Pucon. Everything has good signs so it’s easy to get there.
From Temuco and Valdivia you have buses running every hour and in summer every half an hour.
The Volcanoes
In the middle of the Andes Mountains you can find the fire volcano belts of the Pacific, and close to Pucon you can find the Villarrica,Sollipulli,Quetropillan,Lanin,LLaima and Choshuenco Volcanoes
In the Villarica, Llaima and Choshuenco you can do volcano climbing and skiing.
Villarrica Volcano
Located at the Villarrica National Park with an altitude of 2.847m it is considered among the 10 most active volcanoes in the World and also known because it’s the only active volcano where you can climb to the top and look at the boiling magma.
On it sides there is the Villarica ski center with 10 lifts and chair lifts and you can practice skiing between June and October.
Cientific Tourism
The great presence of birds makes Pucon an excellent place for bird watching and studies its habitat.
Volcanic studies
The existing 140 volcanoes in the Araucania region, some of which are active and some extinguished, allow a very good study of the earth’s volcanic history.
Farming Tourism
The agro-tourism farms allow the tourist to visits where they can see the process of farming, watch the cattle and travel in horseback in all the beautiful landscape of the region
Ecotourism
Hunting, Fishing is important activities in the Pucon area. You can find wild boars, deer and the trout fishing in the season is excellent.
